Day 9

January 9th. Again another quiet day, we made chicken burgers for lunch though! Still more rolling and balancing practice in physio for me. Today I'll give you a bit more of an update on where Luke is at, he'll write a piece one day soon about his early days.

The last few days Luke has been up walking on crutches! He is allowed to weight bear 10kg through his right foot, although I'm not sure how he's supposed to measure that! About 5 weeks ago Luke had surgery on his foot to insert a few screws and metal plates, graft a bone from his ankle to his big toe because the bones had been completely shattered and his big toe was about 10mm shorter than it was supposed to be. 2 weeks ago Luke noticed the wound was opening up and it was soon discovered he had an infection. He was started on antibiotics, 6 hourly, through a Jelco, the little drip needle that goes into a vein so they can inject the fluid in. The antibiotics have been stopped today so things are looking better at the moment. Yesterday he was hypnotized to try alleviate some of the pain... and it worked! Luke thought it was a bit of hocus-pocus but a little of his leg and face pain went away! Just don't tell Luke's doctors he wasn't wearing his CAM boot while walking!!
